Beginnings of Democracy Essay

As time passed by and stationary conditions started to settle, the relations between the ruler, committee and gathering changed too. The board end up being stronger than the ruler and questions on progression and resistance to a powerless lord didn't assist with improving the status of government. It was up and coming that the chamber whose individuals were bolstered by their wards in the populace would acquire power than the ruler. In spite of the fact that the situation of ruler stayed in many urban areas, its power at last diminished, and the position itself turned into an elective post which was restricted to a year. New positions were likewise required as the states expanded its regions. Then again, incredible families would depend on their wards for help, without which they could pick up no kindness from the chamber. Consequently, in the Greek traditional period, official choices were made by a greater part vote on the open get together. The get together turned into the sovereign and we see the introduction of vote based system. The open assembly’s sway, nonetheless, was not won through a class battle. Clashes between incredible head of families were settled through an intrigue to their supporters who went to the get together. Maybe in light of the fact that the pioneers would like to keep the solidness of the states, or maybe it is desirable over settle questions between residents, most particularly between amazing families, through discretionary arrangements, or almost certain the dread of a danger of an intrigue to a brutal horde, that choices were reached preferring whoever can hoard a bigger supporter. Consequently, a family with a larger number of wards would turn out to be politically prevailing than one with lesser wards. The ascent of dictators didn't further improve the status of the ruler and board as sovereign of the states. By and large, this is the term applied to rulers who had no innate or legitimate case to run the show. They have increased such situations through the advantages they brought to the city or by having ascended as heroes of mainstream developments. The standard of dictators, nonetheless, would before long be seen adversely. Sealey clarified that â€Å"the open life in the traditional Greek city was profoundly serious, and when one contender far surpassed his opponents, they felt that they not, at this point had a reasonable possibility; they utilized the term ‘tyrant’ to communicate their objection to his unnecessary preeminence† (39). Subside John Rhodes held that the name and substance of governmental issues was concocted by the Greeks (3). He clarified that the Greeks have â€Å"the first society in which states were represented not at the impulse of an almighty ruler however by residents who ‘took it thusly to run and be ruled’†¦ , as per concurred protected systems where strategy was chosen not by interest in the court or bedchamber however by banter in the gathering and assembly† (Rhodes 3). Beside residents, there were non-residents and slaves who were claimed by a resident or the state. These permitted the residents to dedicate time in governmental issues. The reintroduction of the utilization of letters in order would likewise add to the ascent of the open gathering as the sovereign of Greek states. Greek states, autonomously of one another, received a letters in order that appears of a Semitic starting point. This letters in order would later end up being normal for the Greeks as a country. It made accessible the advancement of writing, of which was customarily presented orally. The expansion of proficiency among the residents would likewise permit them to request that state laws be carefully recorded. Henceforth, we see a consistent ascent in intensity of the populace. Exchange, Warfare, and Alliances As populace expanded, the procurement of new regions was a characteristic arrangement. In spite of the fact that some started to colonize different locales, it end up being inadequate to give country and to take care of the developing populace. Amazing states would investigate attacking a more vulnerable neighboring state. These between state fighting brought upon progress in fighting. Fighting before 800 BC were totally different from the wars the Greeks pursued against one another, and later, in guard from Persian attack, during the traditional period, or which the armed forces were sorted out in an arrangement known as the phalanx. As confirm by the Homeric sonnets, Greek fighting in times long past was done by moderately scarcely any driving warriors. These warriors would ordinarily have a shield, a lance and a blade yet had next to no protective defensive layer. The warriors were additionally not sorted out in phalanx as each battled to a great extent all alone. Subsequently, the fights would in general be a progression of duels from warriors on each side. Then again, as individuals idealized how to design iron, the Greeks had the option to flexibly their military with protective layer. Also, the Greeks found that battling in close arrangement was increasingly productive. The old style Greek armed force would involve units called hoplites, which were intensely outfitted with lances and blades. The guarded defensive layer included a plate corslet, greaves, a shut head protector, and a huge round shield, called hoplon and from which the unit’s name was determined. The phalanx was described by having the hoplites battle in close development, in a progression of lines, where the first line would have the option to push the foe off the field, with those behind ready to push their lances and included their weight into pushing the adversary. Such was the effectivity of the phanlanx that once a city had embraced it, others needed to do moreover so as to endure. The city-states thought that it was advantageous to set up different sorts of conciliatory relationship with others. Sparta, for instance, got itself incapable to extend its regions further. It guided its focus toward framing unions with other city-expresses, some of which have different partnerships in which Sparta was excluded. Toward the finish of the 6th century, Sparta had the option to frame what we currently know as the Peloponnesian alliance. Then again, Athens had established the Delian class to free Greece from the Persians.

Charles Dickens- A tale of Two Cities Violence and Revenge Free Essay Example, 1500 words

xv). The underlying foundation of his work is the commentary that exists about the social issues that are addressed within his work. Wonderful creations of characters are the tools with which he makes his commentary. It is often not about how his characters feel, but in how they manage the circumstances in which they have been thrown. One of the most potent myths of the life of Dickens is that he spent time in a debtors prison with his family at a young age. This myth happens to be supported in history, but is often just as fantastically crafted in story as is the tale of Oliver Twist and Great Expectations, both of which describe a boy at the mercy of adults who have no concern for the child’s needs. After his family became impoverished from the over spending of his father, they moved from a well appointed home into squalor, at which time Dickens went to work in a shoe polish factory where he sealed the jars and glued on the label, a job at which he worked for twelve hours per day (Dailey, 2004, p. We will write a custom essay sample on Charles Dickens- A tale of Two Cities: Violence and Revenge or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now 29). This was not unusual during this time period, but Dickens had moved from a middle class lifestyle to a lower class lifestyle and this shift in class and the resentment that he built from his shift in fortune is evident in the stories that he crafted. Debtor’s prison was not abolished until 1869, a year before Charles Dickens died, but his own feelings on the subject comes through in the support of the rise of the lower classes was evident in the way in which relief was sought and often provided for those who suffered under the yoke of poverty. Debtor’s prison was a miserable incarceration in which the male of the family was held in prison until money could be raised to pay the debt that was owed. The rest of the family moved into the prison with the male figure, although they were free to come and go as needed. When Charles Dickens’ father was in prison, Charles continued to work, having sold all of their possessions to try and relieve the family of their debt, but not able to acquire enough money. Dickens had already sold off all his books, a collection that he regretted losing which impacted his love of literature (Dailey, 2004, p. 28). The novel was written to be serialized, a form of book publishing that was not new to Dickens. However, in the style of writing accomplished for the novel, Dickens created something new in the writing of A Tale of Two Cities. The way in which the story was crafted was a different style for Dickens in which he wanted to create a historical novel.

Effective communication plays a significant role in the success of the business, as communication works to send information, control behavior and motivate workers. Today there are many more ways to communicate than there were just a few years ago and access to communication devices is almost universal in most businesses. Good communication means the intended message that is send is received by a group of audience without any distortions in meaning. This definition applies to not only personal communication among friends or relatives, but to business situations where you may be communicating with a co-worker one-on-one or in a meeting with several or more people. The key here is clarity Communication is also almost instantaneous. Good business communication is simple and easily understood, a rule often overlooked by managers and team members. This is especially important when preparing a document, speech or presentation that is a game-changer for the company. Simple and concise language wins over language that is obtuse and hard to understand.Business communication defines most organizations, resulting in effective marketing campaigns, productive interpersonal relationships among co-workers and successful customer service resolutions. Several communication challenges exist within day-to-day business operations, especially with technology. Technology benefits organizational communication by lifting communication restrictions caused by time and distance. At the same time, the removal of time and distance as communication factors has led to the challenges of information overload and constant accessibility. The issue of constant accessibility has led to blurring of the lines between personal and professional lives. There are several barriers: Emotion serves as an obstacle to effective communication, as emotion can interfere with making rational decisions. Differences in culture can be a communication challenge for international businesses. Not understanding the language and customs of other cultures can lead to poor sales and public relation disasters. There are a number of recognised barriers in the modern day communication, many of which go unnoticed, that can and do effect the standards of communication a person feels comfortable with. Physical barriers are often down to the nature of the environment in which communication may take place but are not always interpreted by the recipient in the correct manor. For example an office door being closed could signify to a co-worker that someone does not want to be bothered, or is possibly in a bad mood, whereas the occupant of the office cou ld have possibly closed the door due to a breeze or didnt close the door them self at all. This is an example of misinterpretation of actions brought about by the physical barrier of the door. Barriers like this can often present the risk of a ripple effect; in that the barrier in this situation could damage the recipients’ perception of the source by making the recipient feel outcast or shut out by the inhabitant of the office, which would set up the standings of a bad communicative relationship. Issues in communication can be disturbed when the basic mechanics of the communication method are damaged directly.

As the reformers agitated for social reforms, the gains that had been made with regard to racial relations appeared to deteriorate. The abolition of slave trade had ushered in a new era in America. The progressive era coincided with the era of great immigration into the United States of America. Some reformers were not comfortable with the idea of maintaining an open door policy to immigrants. They proposed a careful selection of the immigrants by the government to reduce the possibility of immigrants outbreeding the native whites. Majority of the immigrants during this period were of Italian, Slavic, and Asian descent. The proponents of racial selection thought that these races were inferior. They feared that immigrants could adapt more easily to urban life than the ‘native’ whites. Therefore, vetting would ensure that only a few immigrants entered America. Blacks and the so cal led colored people did not obtain a lot of benefits from the reforms. It was during this era that some controversial laws were enforced in some states. The Jim Crow laws allowed racial segregation. In this arrangement, black people were to be separated from white people. This meant that black people attended separate schools, visited separate hospitals, and travelled in separate buses from the ones used by white people (Washington 380). This was worsened by a court ruling that upheld the laws. The Supreme Court ruled that racial segregation was not a big problem as long as all races were accorded equal opportunities. This meant that African Americans could not get good jobs. In addition, black people were often attacked or lynched especially in the southern states during the era (Kirby 70). During the era, black people were not granted equal opportunity to participate in national politics. This significantly hindered their ability to better themselves.Advertising Looking for es say on history? Let's see if we can help you! The major problems that progressives sought to solve included poverty, illness, and ignorance. However, these problems could only be solved if all members of the American society were granted equal access to opportunities. Denying African Americans and immigrants of certain races equal opportunity meant that these problems would persist in a section of the American society. Therefore, the so called progressive era did not have a significant impact on members of the ‘lesser races’. This paper examined racial relations during the progressive era. During this era, reformers desired to solve problems inflicting the American society. Some Americans like African Americans were not given sufficient opportunity to better themselves during this period. Evaluation for Ice Bar Essays

Evaluation for Ice Bar Essays Evaluation for Ice Bar Essay Evaluation for Ice Bar Essay You dont want the expenses to be more than the sales. Management and employees would want to see this information to see how well the business is doing. Also to see if the business can afford to pay the employees. Evaluation for Ice Bar First of all we were deciding upon what kind of business we were to set up. First we had decided to set up a chocolate shop. The reason for not starting up a chocolate shop was because we thought this was not necessary and there are a lot of shops which sell chocolate in Sheffield. We wanted to introduce something new instead. So we decided upon setting up an Ice Cream parlour, the reason for this was there are no Ice Cream parlours in Sheffield, but there are cafes and restaurants which sell Ice Cream. By doing research we found out that Ice Cream does not have to be restricted to the summer months only as it is a cold dessert. At the time we started our business plan in the winter where a lot of Ice Cream is not eaten due to the cold weather. Due to us starting our plan in the winter we thought it would be difficult to find information on Ice Cream due to Ice Cream is known as seasonal. We also decided not to open Ice Cream parlour at one point due to it being seasonal. However, doing a lot of research finding out the important information for our business we realised we could be successful. If we put a lot more effort in advertising in the winter. Research is the most important part of the business plan and we believe we were successful in this area. As we found out a lot about Ice Cream the profits you can make buy selling the product. Pricing is really important in a business. If it is pitched too high then it will frighten off potential customers, but too low a price might give you levels of demand we wont be able to cope with, or worse leave us with higher costs than revenues. So we had decided making the prices reasonable. We decided to locate on Ecclesall Road due to it being a predominately student area. We believe it could start us with a good client base. There were different areas from where we could choose from for example London Road, somewhere in the City Centre. As Ecclesall Road is just off the City Centre so it does have its advantages and it is a long road with a lot of competition. Finding the property on Ecclesall Road was difficult as there are a lot of businesses successful. We managed to find a property after a while we had to wait, if we had not been successful in finding a property on Ecclesall Road we would have decided to locate on London Road which is a road like Ecclesall Road with a few cafes and takeaways. London Road is being developed into being another Ecclesall Road. There are flats being made on London Road which are to be filled with mainly students. We had decided to set up the business as a partnership due to having more ideas and we both have different skills within each other. By putting the skills together we thought we could have a successful business. Setting the business up as partners does have its advantages and disadvantages. As above they are the advantages but the disadvantages are not agreeing on the same idea, which can cause some problems but me and Emma managed to work together and if any disagreements occurred we had sorted them out by working them out. We did manage to get on well with each other and work as partners. The quality assurance was used by the help of Emma getting information how a food handling business works. As Emma works at Massarella she had the experience and knowledge of what was needed to be done. We used the information from Massarella as it is a food handling business. It had helped us a lot with our quality assurance, production plan, and constraints on production. The financial plan is crucial as it is a forecast on the business to see if we are to be successful in making any profit. The financial part of the plan took us a long time to do by trying to get it right. It was not difficult doing the cash flow forecast and the profit and loss account as we had to just fill in the months and it were calculated automatically. However finding out all the prices and working them out was difficult and took most of our time working them out. However looking at the financial plan we seem to be doing well not losing a lot of money. As we do expect sales to be high in the summer but not in the winter so it can be understood that the sales figures are low and we dont make any profit in the first three months. It is expected though we dont make any profit at the start of the business. Nevertheless we seem to be doing well not losing out on much. Looking at the ratios in gross profit we are doing extremely well, but not in the net profit but we are totally low in the net profit we are jus near the 50% mark but we can grow on this as it is the start of a new business and we might even expect more customers than we predict or less. If we had more time we would have convert the Ice Bar into a drinking bar in the night. We have a bar in Ice Bar and the name which would be suitable, so there would not be a lot to change the premises itself. We would have to apply for licence for alcohol. We also have a basement we could refurbish it and convert it to a dancing area or have another bar downstairs. To convert the Ice Bar into a night bar it would cost us a lot of money so we would need to take out a loan. If we were not successful in our Ice Cream Parlour this idea would be our back up plan. We decided to use the Lloyds TSB Bank business plan to help us construct our own plan to help us construct our own plan. There were a variety of business plans to choose from to help us to construct our business plan for example HSBC Bank, Natwest etc. The business plans are mainly available from the banks. We chose Lloyds TSB Bank because there is a lot of information given to help with the business plan, for example a CD was given a book which guides you through the planning of a business. It also gave an outline of a business plan where you can fill in the spaces and use it as a business plan. The guide was very helpful, we used the construction of the Lloyds TSB business plan we did not use as we had a lot more information to add and some of the information in the plan was not necessary to our business plan. We could have chosen different plans like HSBC but we felt HSBC did not have lot information like Lloyds TSB. It was not very helpful it had just given a business plan where you can just fill in what was necessary.

Good Manufacturing Practices Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Good Manufacturing Practices - Case Study Example I am working in a Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda in Ireland. It is a research based largest pharmaceutical company in Japan and one of the global leaders of the industry. I consider it to be a privilage to be with such an esteemed organization. Basically, I am involved in dispensing raw materials and controlling coating process. The raw materials that are the basic ingredients of any medicine needs to be passed through GMP to be qualified, sourced properly, and tested before release into use. Though these regulations vary in different part of the world, they are responsible to creating business and compliance challenges. Poor quality medicines or those medicines that are not manufactured using GMP can damage health. For instance, a poor quality medicine may contain toxic substances that have been unintentionally added, causing damage to health or even death. The use of GMP is absolutely necessary in each and every steps starting from selecting the raw materials till the finish product is sealed and packed properly. If the coating of the drug is not good, it may loose most of its valuable ingredients by the time it reaches the consumer. It is a well known fact that a medicine that contains little or none of the claimed ingredient will not have the planned therapeutic effect. I believe that failure to comply with GMP regulations can result in very serious costs as well as product recall, seizure, termination of manufacture, fines, and even imprisonment. Every time we take a medicine we can have confidence that the medicine has been manufactured in accordance with GMP because it has today become a global standard. GMP along with expert assessment gives us a clear overview that every medicine is safe to use, will have the necessary efficiency and will be of the right quality (emeu.eu, N.D.). GMP or the recently updated cGMP, where the "c" corresponds to "current," remind manufacturers that they must utilize technologies and systems which are modern and abide by with the regulation. Under current GMP rules and regulations which is the latest version of GMP, it is the pharmaceutical manufacturer who is accountable for the entire operations (Saffron Media Pvt. Ltd., 2004). There are a variety of practices that ensure quality: some of them are as follows: "raw materials quality declaration; maintaining correct substances all the way through the manufacturing process; standards for hygiene and safety; in-house testing; production and process controls; and warehousing and distribution" (Dietary Supplement Quality Initiative, 1999). I am responsible for dispensing raw materials and controlling coating process. As a result of following GMP my working environment is much more safe and efficient. Additionally, these regulations require that manufacturers, processors, and packagers of drugs, to take positive steps to make sure that their products are secure, unadulterated, and effective. GMP regulations necessitate an extremely good manufacturing process, allow companies to reduce or even eliminate probable chances of contamination, mixups, and errors. Failure of companies to meet the terms with GMP can result in very serious costs. Studies have shown that GMPs offer quality assurances that off-the-shelf testing cannot. In fact,

The Mongols: How Barbaric are the Barbarians? Who are the Mongols really? The Mongols had an empire that existed during the 13th and 14th centuries AD, and was the largest continuous land empire in human history lead by a great ruler called Genghis Khan. For centuries they have been remembered as a brutal tribe of nomadic barbarians who were a serious threat to people and civilization throughout Asia and Europe, so how barbaric are the barbarians exactly? What does barbaric mean anyways? Barbaric is to be savagely cruel and extremely brutal or primitive and unsophisticated. The barbarians are some what barbaric. The barbarians have codes of conduct, prisoner dummies, religious tolerance, and cutting heads off. In Rashid ad-Din’s Collected Chronicles (Document 10); he talks about how the Mongols were hospital. In it, it says â€Å"when a husband goes hunting or to war, his wife must maintain the house hold, so that the messenger or guest who dismounts there finds all in order and the wife is able to provide him with good food and anything else he may require.† This shows that the Mongols are not barbaric because the make sure that the house is suitable for guest; however, in John of Plano Carpini’s History of the Mongols (Document 3), he talks about how the Mongols â€Å"send a detachment of captives and men of other nationalities who are fighting with them to meet the enemy head-on, and some of the tarts (Mongols) may perhaps accompany them.† They are barbaric because the used the lives of others as dummies in a battle. They do not care if the prisoners that they are using as dummies have families or not. At some points the Mongols are barbaric when it come to p rotecting them selves or trying to conquer land, but they also try to be hospital. In William of Rubruck’s the Journey of William of Rubruk (Document 9), he talks about how Mongke Khan was religious tolerance. In it, it says â€Å"he therefore wishes you all to meet together and hold a conference and each one is to write down what he says so that he can know the truth.† The Mongols are not barbaric because Mongke Khan wanted to learn about different religious so that he could convert to one; however, in Ata- Malike Juvani’s Genghis Khan (Document 4), he talks about the punishment that the Mongols did. He says that the Mongols â€Å"severed the heads of the slain from their bodies and heaped them up in piles, keeping those of the men separated from those of the women and children.† The Mongols are barbaric because they would cut off the heads off people that were already dead. They did not have any respect for the dead what so ever. The Mongols wanted to learn about religion on how it works and which religion is true, but they were too cr uel on their victims and threw the bodies into piles based on their gender. In documents 10, 3, 9, and 4 talks about reasons how barbaric or not barbaric the Mongols were. I believe that the Mongols are somewhat barbaric. In the age of the Nazi, the Nazi things called concentration camps. In the concentration camps, they would have gas chambers where lots of Jews were killed at once. The thing that people do not realize in the concentration camps they also allowed the Jews to eat and bathe. Why would someone who wanted to kill the Jews allow them to eat and bathe: Remorse or humanity? The Nazi were not all cruel and hard hearted as made out to be. This relates back to the Mongols because they are believed to have all cruel methods this may be true, but they also have kind hearts.

Letter to State Official On Gay Rights :: essays research papers

Dear Mr. Governor: Since I was in third grade, I have learned that there are certain "inalienable rights", the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, all of which the United States government is committed to protecting for every human being. I understand that you will soon have the opportunity to look at a bill which would allow gay marriage to be legalized, and I ask you to not veto this bill, but to support these inalienable rights to which every American is due. Whatever happened to all men are created equal? It seems to me that the people of America have a certain standards to the â€Å"all men† part of that statement, which is, that they need to be heterosexual in order to be considered for being treated equal. Americans are so proud of their freedom and their liberty, yet they are so anxious to take that same freedom away from someone else. Why can’t we take that statement for what it is, and start treating everyone equally regardless of his or her race, gender, or sexual preference? Homosexuals should be entitled to all the same rights as heterosexuals have. They are no different than the rest of us, they simply choose to practice there intimate life in a different way. What is marriage? Recently, people argue with respect to the definition of marriage. To get married is a very important event for almost everyone, it is often considered to be one of the single most important decisions and days of ones life. However, what would you do if you could not get married to the person that you loved because it was socially unacceptable and the law would not allow it? Sometimes it seems as if we are reverting back in history when interracial marriages were the topic of discussion, people were against interracial marriages because they did not understand. Now, people are against same-sex marriages for the same reasons. The United States is denying two people who love each other the right to legally be married. Gays and lesbians are just like heterosexuals, they want there marriages to be recognized by the law. They are like any normal couple and want a marriage to prove and show their love for one another. They want that simple document that the government gives to heterosexuals which binds two people into a marriage.

Ap World Histroy Dbq

DBQ Political, religious, and social factors affected the work of scientist in the sixteenth and seventeenth century in many ways. They were the reasons why natural philosophers questioned, studied, and continued to find new information in their discoveries. Developing a new scientific worldview must have required an abundance of controversy dealing with these important factors. There were people who believed that the discoveries made should not interfere with political power. *Thomas Hobbes, an English Philosopher, certainly believed in many theories’ that scientists had viewed. However he is best known for his political thought.Certainly his political views were included in his scientific works (Doc 7). Louis XVI, a political power, showed interest into the scientific studies. This evidently showed on a drawing to honor Louis XVI’s visit to the French Royal Academy (Doc 10). Clearly, science was encouraged to flourish because people knew the happiness of the country, for not only depending on the arms abroad but for also creating abundances at home (Doc 11). The social factor was furthermost likely to have been more analyzed in scientist works. Many were interested in what people thought of them and their studies.Scientist were even more proficient in removing their experiments completely if people disagreed. Marin Mersenne guaranteed that his experiments had been repeated more than 100 times, but however was willing to change them if someone did not agree. Others however, were confident in their studies and did not care for much criticism (Doc 1). The reason for why natural philosophers were sometimes held back was because they truly did not know what their objective was. This is most likely why they made slight progress in the sixteenth and seventeenth centauries (Doc 4). Religion was unquestionably a factor scientist considered. They took the principles of God into their works. It appeared impossible to them how things could have so much aston ishing features and qualities and still have been created out of nature. They knew these things became to exist from an immeasurable wisdom and power (Doc 8). Just as God governs minds, minds have specific laws which place them above the moments of matter (Doc 12). Bible stories were used as comparisons with scientific views, such as John Calvin mentioning Moses who wrote in a popular style where all ordinary persons gifted with common sense and were able to be understood (Doc 2). He is a French Protestant theologian which may be what leads him to trust that astronomy unfolds the admirable wisdom of God. There were those who were not affected with political, religious, and social factors because they were limited on human rights. Women had certain difficulties in the scientific area. Margret Cavendish would have set her own school of natural philosophy if she would have not have feared the casting of a male school. *Margaret, a natural philosopher, was certainly interested in discov eries however, she understood the complications of having a part in this grouping (Doc 9).Studies should have been allowed from those who wished to learn, as well as those who selected to reject whatever is unidentified to them (Doc2). Both genders could have formed a friendship between intelligent associations; this would have been a great aid to the investigation and education of the truth (Doc 6). Political, religious, and social factors were massive topics. Natural Philosophers certainly were aware of their process of studies and experiments. They all had different views on the three factors causing old and new discoveries to be more interesting.
